INTRO Dear reader, this is my final post on the project I started this semester for my class named Careers in Music, here at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music. It was an attempt to record my first studio album. I chose this project because:
TIMELINE This project would last eight weeks total (with Spring Break in between to catch up). At the beginning of the semester, I had to come up with a timeline, breaking down each of the eight weeks and planning ahead. But my performance injury changed it significantly. Here is what I had in mind initially: * warning * long text * read at your own risk * (you can download the whole PDF below)
OUTCOME What happened on Wednesday, April 10, 2019? My first experience in the recording studio! It was terrifying! Only when I sat on the piano and Jake said "Bach Fantasy, Take 1", only then I realized what I mentioned above; that the studio is the last stop on a pianist's journey. These pieces are new for me; I was asking too much of myself. Anyway, I recorded my Bach, because it was the only piece in perfect shape, and because the session was only one day. I attempted to record the Scriabin too, but the last part had some tricky passages that did not go as well. Here is a short video where I talk about the whole project: CONCLUSION This project might not be complete, in the sense that I did not complete all the steps that I had originally planned for. But it certainly filled me with experience and knowledge on:
Next semester, dear reader! Until then, keep an eye out for a video of my performance (see poster). Dear reader,

If the novels are still being read in 50 years, no one is ever going to say: ‘What’s great about that sixth book is that he met his deadline!’ It will be about how the whole thing stands up.

INTRO
Dear reader, my eight-week-long project is coming to an end soon. Next Tuesday, I will be posting a video with all that has happened since I started this project, with the latter being part of a class I am taking this semester at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music, named Careers in Music. For the new reader, the goal was to complete my first studio recording on the repertoire I am currently working on.
Well, the deadline might be close, but the project is for sure not yet complete. The hand injury I've been experiencing since February significantly slowed down the process. I have not recovered yet (sad face emoticon). The pain comes and goes.
But I found a very interesting book that I am reading these days:

But I found a very interesting book that I am reading these days:
As the website states (visit here), this book is not about piano technique, but about the body of the pianist and it is a necessary tool for every performer and pedagogue. It is an easy-to-read book with a physical approach to piano playing and extensive information on:
anatomy body mapping injury prevention and recovery and much more. I do recommend it! |
I agree with George R.R. Martin above; a deadline is not the finish line. These eight weeks have been the beginning, the starting fuel, and have given me strength and determination to finish this, even if it is not going to happen by the school deadline.
Who's excited for the GOT premiere this Sunday!?
This tune ("The Light of the Seven") by the very talented Ramin Djawadi, is stuck in my head.

Alright, back to the topic now!
WEEKLY UPDATE
Tomorrow is the crucial date! I have one (1) (ένα) recording session in the studio, where Jacob Ransom, DMA percussion student and valuable friend (check him out here) will be on the sound. I plan on recording everything twice, and see what I can keep afterwards. Wish me luck!
As far as the album artwork, it is almost done - yay!
Dear reader, musician or not, do not forget to:
